  • Advising on disputes arising out of contracts to construct two DP3 drill ships in Northern Ireland.

  • Advising on a dispute arising out of a project to construct two well intervention vessels in Spain.

  • Advising a South Korean shipyard on a dispute arising out of a project to build an innovative tower facility offshore West Africa.

  • Advising the EPCI contractor through two offshore phases of a project to design, procure and install jacket foundations for a Scottish wind farm (including disputes as to design tolerances, subcontractor default, steel price escalation clauses).

  • Advised the contractor client in High Court litigation concerning delays and cost increases in the transportation and installation of a met mast in the southern North Sea.

  • Advising insurers on a USD 1 billion claim for loss of production following the failure on the main bearing on a FPSO offshore West Africa.

Our approach is to listen to the client and develop a strategy that is tailored to the client’s requirements.

Sometimes this entails assisting entirely in the background to help the client identify the best legal arguments to achieve a favourable commercial settlement. On other occasions this entails conducting heavyweight arbitration or litigation until its final conclusion.

Our non-contentious experience includes:

  • Advising on EPIC contracts for the development of numerous new build FPSOs offshore West Africa and South America.

  • Advising on a project to build two semi-submersible drilling rigs in the North of England.

  • Advising a market leading offshore contractor on a precedent EPIC contract developed by a French oil company for a floating offshore wind project.

  • Advising a market leading offshore contractor on the development of in-house rules to help manage risk in floating offshore wind projects.

  • Assisting a Norwegian bidder with tendering applications for initial Norwegian licencing round. Working with local counsel to ensure appropriate applications.

  • Advising on the renegotiation of a FPSO lease for a very late life field offshore West Africa.
